The CSSA is run by the Cleaning Industry for the industry. We exist to help businesses Grow, Comply, Change and Innovate. We do this through our accreditation and recognising greatness, key events, online and offine business advice, and having government representation.

The association celebrates excellence in the industry with our Awards and Innovation Showcase; helping you grow through recognition and accreditation; keeps members informed and connected through events; keeping you compliant with new law and legislation, gives businesses a powerful collective voice; allowing us to lobby for change at government level, and by sharing best practices with our members we are at the forefront of innovation; driving the industry forward with new technology.

The CSSA raises standards in the Industry. Being a CSSA member lets your clients know that they are dealing witht he right contrators. All members adhere to the code of practice. Application does does not guarantee membership. Applicants are only admitted if they pass the initial audit.

As a CSSA member, you have access to an exclusive community of individuals and businesses within the contract cleaning industry via a mix of online and offline content. Live events and distance learning, this community gets the support they need to run their businesses, safe in the knowledge that in addition to their membership perks, they’ve got a 50-year old, long established organisation lobbying for them, fighting their corner and doing all they can to improve their lives and the lives of their families.
PARTNERSHIPS
To ensure the CSSA flourishes and remains at the forefront of improving our offer to our members we have formed alliances with particular like-minded organisations both at home and abroad.
These organisations support the objectives of the CSSA and its members.
CSSA is a member of the BCC Council and is privy to the activities of its 27 member organisations. Grant funded the launch of the CSSA Awards Scheme. Specific BCC current project which we participate in is Project 35. BCC also act as a Award Champion, judging & presenting, the CSSA’s Corporate Social Responsibility Award.
We represent the UK Cleaning Industry in HM Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), including Sir David Metcalfe Labour Market Enforcement Roundtable.

We represent the UK Cleaning Industry on HM Home Office Immigration and Border Policy Directorate (IBPD) with specific interest on Illegal Migration, Identity Security and Enforcement.

PAUL ASHTON
CHAIRMAN
Paul's focus is firmly on the future of cleaning and hygiene and the role that technology will play in minimising environmental impact, supporting our front-line operatives and ensuring talented individuals understand the potential to succeed within the many aspects of our industry.
Having worked within the Facilities Management sector at various operational levels, Paul acquired Birkin Cleaning Services Ltd in 2016 and has never looked back. Birkin proudly competes on providing tech-led service solutions to create safe, clean and hygienic spaces for over 300 clients across the UK and employs 1600 operatives. Birkin is a forward-thinking organisation fuelled by positive, enthusiastic, and helpful team members who embrace the benefits of implementing innovation. Birkin has grown organically by 300% over the last 5 years and being a CSSA member has provided invaluable support in achieving such progress.
Paul is proud to be an Environmental Cleaning Chartered Practitioner and active member the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners as a Freeman of the City of London.
The opportunity to be Chairman for the CSSA is a honour and role that Paul is incredibly proud to take on. Paul believes in the significant opportunity for the CSSA to provide leadership in the drive for our membership and encourage ambitious and successful businesses
JOANNE GILLIARD
DIRECTOR
Jo was part of the new election of officers in 2016 and became CEO of the Jangro Group,responsible for leading the development and execution of Jangro’s short term and long term strategic ambitions.

Joanne has been leading the team at Jangro for almost 20 years. As a highly regarded industry professional with over 35 years’ experience in our industry, she sits on several industry association boards.
Acting as a direct liaison between the Jangro Board, the Management of the Company and their 45 Jangro Members, it is her duty to ensure Jangro provide their customers with quality products, an unrivalled service and professionalism throughout.

Jo has been involved in the industry for 30 years and sits on various industry Boards and is a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners.

JOHN FINDLATER
CEO
Joined Initial 1967 and became Executive Director of Holding Group BET’s cleaning activities in UK, Europe, America and Pacific Rim. Appointed Director General of CSSA & Cleaning Industry Training Organisation in 1990 and in 1994 joined Sherwood Cleaning group which was ultimately sold to Servest in 2008. On leaving Servest in 2010, assisted some small cleaning organisations in a non-executive role before being appointed Executive Director of CSSA 2016 and CEO in 2017.

YVONNE TAYLOR
DIRECTOR
With over 25 years’ experience in the facilities management industry, I have worked in a wide range of environments, from healthcare and education all the way through to nuclear power stations, retail, Business and Industry and food manufacturing facilities. These experiences have armed me with extensive knowledge of the cleaning industry – knowledge that I have looked to impart with my colleagues at every opportunity and which I now look to promote formally as part of a respected industry body.
​
Ultimately, I am a passionate believer in the cleaning profession and all it has to offer as a long-term career choice. From my attendance at industry events, guest speaking at industry events and attending conferences to the privilege of creating the award winning IMPACT Cleaning programme, my career has always been centred on raising recognition of the cleaning industry.
TONY CRINION
DIRECTOR
Bringing over 20 years of experience organising exhibitions across the globe, Tony has organised large scale exhibitions for the Construction, Interiors, Hospitality and more recently the Cleaning sector.

As Managing Director of Quartz Business Media who jointly organise the London and Manchester Cleaning shows, Tony is passionate about ensuring return on investment for those who either attend or participate at his events.
​
He looks forward to positively contributing to the future success of the Cleaning industry by being an active member of the CSSA.

KEITH FRENCH
DIRECTOR
Keith French is CEO of Excellerate Services (formerly Templewood Services & LCC) and responsible for their UK Cleaning & Security business delivery. Having originally graduated as a Procurement Manager with ExxonMobil in 2000, Keith got involved in Catering to Offshore oil platforms which took him to Australia where he joined the Spotless Group in 2004 selling Cleaning & FM services. He rose through the ranks creating FM solutions to become Business Development Director for their new UK Cleaning venture and moved to London in 2010. After supporting their successful London Olympic cleaning project delivery he joined TCFM in 2012 and learnt about cleaning in the UK retail, event, B&I, & logistics sectors becoming Deputy CEO before joining Excellerate Services in mid- 2019. Keith is passionate about ensuring people collaborate towards learning more & achiveving better outcomes for themselves and customers.

MIKE RUTHERFORD
TREASURER and HR CHAIR
Mike joined the family cleaning business in 1979. Mike came through the ranks working in operations, sales & marketing, administration and other key support departments, eventually took overall control of the business in the mid-80’s. In 1987 he was elected a Director of The Association and later appointed Treasurer, an appointment he has now held for over 10 years.

ASHLEY HOADLEY
DIRECTOR and H & S CHAIR
Ashley was appointed in 2016 and brings his experience of insurance and risk management to the team. Ash has been working in the sector for more than 20 years, and is skilled in negotiation, business, planning, operation and risk management, and customer service.
Experienced Director, passionate about compliance around health and safety, backed with a history of working successfully in the commercial insurance industry.
DARREN MARSTON
DIRECTOR
Darren has worked in the cleaning industry for over 30 years and is the Executive Chairman for the UK’s largest independent cleaning equipment supplier - Industrial Cleaning Equipment Ltd.
Darren is greatly respected within the cleaning industry by his peers and colleagues and currently holds the position of Director of the CSSA, he is an active member of the industry livery company The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners, the BCC and of BICSc.

JIM MELVIN
DIRECTOR
Having been in the industry previously, Jim left to pursue a career in sport. He has now been involved for a period of over 30 years and in that time he has gained significant experience and promotions rising from Branch Management to Group CEO.
Jim is passionate about the industry with the result that he is a Court Assistant & Junior Warden in progression within the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners, a member of BICSc, and is currently the Deputy Chairman of the British Cleaning Council. He has a reputation as being passionate about the delivery of service excellence and being very detailed in his approach to working with clients and staff. He has experience of partnership in many market sectors amongst which are Commercial, Media and Leisure, Retail, Public Sector, Events, Logistics, Defence and Professional Services, working alongside a great many prestigious and blue chip clients.

JO LONG
DIRECTOR
Jo has more than 20 years in the janitorial and paper industries, in Sales, Customer Service and Management roles. Jo has now been with the manufacturer, Metsa Tissue, for 10 years. During that time, she has done much to drive up the importance of education and supporting services for the industry. Jo is a member of several key Industry organisations and is also a Liverymen, she spends much of her time, networking and raising the profile of the key challenges faced by Janitorial organisations including Sustainability.

DANIEL CROSS
MARKETING CHAIR
As country Marketing Manager for cleaning machine manufacturer Tennant, and several years’ experience working with IPC in Europe and Vaclensa here in the UK, Daniel’s knowledge and insight into the cleaning industry comes from a global perspective and he is enthusiastic about the future of the industry.
Alongside his role as CSSA Marketing Chair, Daniel is also Co-founder of FM North and is a founding committee member of The Save Construction Initiative.
With almost two decades of marketing, and becoming an award winning marketing, PR and business development experience, Daniel is keen to share his expertise and insight for the benefit of the CSSA, its members and its mission; to make the cleaning industry better for everyone who is part of it.
